Side sewer and water service line replacement, dug out and put back

Broken side sewers and water service lines excavated and replaced with our own machines, new cleanouts set, and the yard cleaned up when we finish.

Chapter 01

When a side sewer is past cleaning

A line can be rooted, scaled, belly-sagged, cracked by frost or flattened under a driveway, and at some point no amount of rodding will hold it open. Tree roots, corroded pipe, a pipe packed with debris, a hard freeze, a burst section: those are the usual reasons a side sewer or a water service line has to come out of the ground instead of being cleaned again.

We do not start with the shovel. A rooter or a jetting pass comes first when it can buy you the line, and a camera run goes down the cleanout so you and the plumber are looking at the same broken pipe. If the video shows a collapse or a break, replacement is the honest answer, and we will show you where it is before anything gets dug.

The same goes for the water service line from the meter to the house. A line that has gone pinhole, or one that is galvanized and choking down your pressure, gets the same treatment: find it, expose it, replace it.

Digging it out with our own crew and machines

Our plumbers inspect the whole run first, the pipes inside the house and the ones underground, then excavate the yard to replace the damaged sewer line and the pipes next to it. We dig with our own machinery, which is why a van and an open trench show up in our photos instead of a subcontractor's name.

Every replaced run gets a cleanout. You can see the pit in the photos below: the new riser set in gravel, reachable later for a camera or a jetting nozzle. That small piece of pipe is what turns the next backup into a short visit instead of another dig.

Some jobs are a tie-in rather than a repair. One customer had us connect their system to a city sewer connection, and they said so in their review below. Residential yards, commercial lots and a walkway in front of a business all use the same plan: locate, expose, replace, test the flow, close.

Chapter 03

The yard goes back the way we found it

Digging is the part everyone dreads. Our plumbers carefully clean the yard and remove the dirt and debris when the project is done, and on a commercial job the surface gets patched before we leave, as the concrete in the last photo shows.

After the work, hold on to what you now have: a new line, a cleanout, and a camera video if you want one for your records. If roots or grease ever return to the old sections of your system, ring the office and we will clear them from the new cleanout instead of from the street.

Sewer trouble does not keep office hours. We run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and sewage problems count as emergencies. If the water is coming up in the basement tonight, call and say so.

What the dig looks like in our own photos

These are Burke crew photos from real digs. A cleanout riser goes into the pit, the gravel goes around it, and the line is reachable from then on. If you are not sure whether your line needs digging at all, a camera inspection or a hydro jetting pass usually settles it first.

Burke tied our sewer system in to a city sewer connection and did great work. They were on time and when we needed more time to prepare they were happy to reschedule and were very flexible.
